If your family is like ours, we love our parks and state recreation areas. However, state park hopping can get expensive if you do it often enough, on the other hand, the benefits outweigh the expense. I find that as soon as Andrew is outdoors, I see immediate stress release. Exercise helps us sleep better and our moods, in general, are calmer after a long hike in the woods, or playing waterside. Let us help you on your search to finding out what discounts your state offers.
State Park Discounts
Many states offer state park discounts to seniors, veterans, or to persons with disabilities. Some of these discounts include camping fees and other niceties. To prove a disability, medical proof or SSID must be presented at the time of purchase. I have noticed there are a few states that do not offer discounts to the disabled. If you happen to live in one of these states, I suggest you write to your state representatives and get others involved as well.
Don’t Confuse National and State Park Discount Passes
America the Beautiful – National Parks & Federal Recreational Lands Access Pass is a free lifetime pass for person with disabilities. Read more about the national pass at: Lifetime Access Pass for Persons with Disabilities. This pass cannot be used at state parks and recreation areas, therefore you must look at what your particular state has to offer.
