I was recently watching a documentary about climbing Mount Everest. Mountain climbing is one tough experience where expecting the unexpected is routine. What an amazing feat and a great analogy for life as well!
How often do we find ourselves sailing through life and then the unexpected hits? Living with Prader-Willi syndrome sometimes feels like mountain climbing complete with all the unexpected events. One minute the skies are blue, and then an unexpected storm sweeps in only to upset the entire balance of the household.
Andrew and I are sharing our adventures, the mountains we move, our highs, and our valley lows, in hopes that it might help others. Whether you are new to homeschooling, traveling with children, or just trying to get through life, we are all in this together.
Some problems are unsolvable and are just a fact of life. An amputated limb will not grow back. Prader-Willi syndrome is genetic, and it is not going to disappear. Regardless, we can still be an inspiration for others. Positive thinking does not solve problems, but it does help us navigate them by controlling our reactions.
I have yet to help Andrew navigate the teen years and the transitioning period to the adulthood. Like other climbers, we are looking to those who have tread the path before us. If we all reach back and grab someone’s hand, we can help pull followers up the mountain efface. By offering this one small kindness we can be a beacon of light to those who are navigating the mountains that we have already climbed. Welcome to Moving Mountains Daily!
As always, “Striving for progress…. not perfection.”
